Pack Your Suitcase

Today we read the 4th chapter of Refugee (by Alan Gratz) and our Teacher has asked us to imagine we had become refugees and had to leave New Zealand. for our activity we must pack a suitcase containing essential items such as clothes, water, food ETC. I believe I have come up with a fairly reasonable list of items

Open Suitcase 2 Illustration - Twinkl
Wallet,
clothes,
passport,
toothbrush and toothpaste,
toilet paper,
phone and phone charger,
deck of cards,
laptop and laptop charger,
hard drive,
water bottle and food,

Tent
and a knife

If you had to leave the country, where would you go?

  1. Hi Liam, what an interesting read! I have really enjoyed reading through which items you would pack in your suitcase if you had to leave New Zealand. You have some very reasonable items, and very creative! There are some you've listed that I didn't consider. I really like the idea of packing a tent, just in case there's no accommodation or suitable space for sleeping. Packing a tent would also give you the freedom to stop for a rest when it suited you and your family, and you wouldn't have to worry about accommodation costs or check-in times. What kind of tent does your family have? How many people can it sleep? Would it be a heavy item in your suitcase?

I also like the idea of taking a deck of cards. Becoming a refugee would be a very stressful time, and playing cards with your family would bring you some fun, joy and laughter on your journey. Are there any particular games you would play with the deck of cards? Do you know any magic tricks that involve cards?

    1. Kia Ora Miss Fleet, our tent is supposed to sleep around two adults, but I think it could probably fit all four members of my family (even though it would be very cramped) and its very light considering how many people can fit inside.
I really like card games and magic tricks, if we were to play a card game it would either be Poker, 3 up 3 down or last card, i also know 2 solo tricks and another that includes a partner that already knows the trick, i will be happy to show you after the lockdown if you want.
