A Holiday to Remember

LI: Today we had to make a narrative based around a holiday

It was a brisk summers morning, as the sun rose over the nearby mountains, the birds chirped as if their final breaths were being deprived from there lungs. I had been waiting for this day for months now, today we were going on a well earned holiday. I raced down stairs with my packed bag in one hand and my toothbrush in the other. My Mum, Dad and my little brother were already waiting for me by the kitchen table. “Everybody in the car, now!” Mum had been planing this trip for almost a year now, and i could tell she wanted everything to go to plan. That's just like Mum, always making schedules and charts and always on time. One by one we made our way into the minivan.

Fast forward five and a half hours, and we arrived at our destination. We ripped all of the luggage out of the car and proceeded into the bach where we would be staying for the next week. Once we got settled in, I asked mum if I could go for a walk along the beach. I had read all about this place, and its beautiful views, and I couldn't wait to explore. “Yes” responded my mum “but you have to take your brother” “UGHH” I sighed, hes so annoying, but we all know what mum says goes, and there's no arguing with her. At the time, I was 14 and my brother was 7, so you could see why I didn't want to go with him.
I grabbed my little brother and followed the path down to the bright golden beach. About 1-2 K’s later, I decided we should turn around, except something was wrong. I guess i wasn't paying attention, and my little brother had run away. I knew my mum was gonna kill me, so I sprinted up the beach, but in front of me stood a large crowd. “That's gotta be almost everybody in town” I thought to myself. They were surrounding something… something big. By the time I approached the large crowd I was astonished. I had never seen anything like this In my life, and clearly neither had any of these people, cause they were all taking photos. I pushed everybody out of my way. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, yet I could feel its energy covering me like a cloak. In front of me stood what looked like an 80 foot squid with scars and wounds all over it. One of the squids eyes was gone and it was missing several tentacles. Whatever got into a fight with this squid clearly won. Whatever killed that squid was still out there. And I was gonna find it.

The Infection

 Day 34

Supplies are becoming scarce. Stryders pollute the streets of Manhattan, obliterating anything that stands in their way. Screams echo through the air. Was I beginning to go mad? I've been camping out at a nearby apartment building in solitude since the blast hit.

Day 36

My water supplies are dwindling, and I'm down to my last packet of chips. I’d only last around a week with the remaining resources, meaning I would have to leave the camp in search of food…

Searching for food is a hard enough task, but bringing it all back to the base would be near impossible.

I began the trek, constantly looking behind me. Stryders are the outcome of a nuclear bomb, made to wipe out the remainder of the human race once and for all. But instead of wiping them out, they only made them stronger. I still don't know  how I survived, but I'm extremely grateful.

Day 37

Here it was. The end of the line. I drew my machete and proceeded to look for an entrance, but to no avail. All the doors and windows were locked tight, meaning I would have to break the glass, which undoubtedly would cause a wave of Stryders to make their way hastily towards the source of the noise. I needed food desperately, so this… this was my last resort.

The Endless Dream

I've always dreamt of soaring through the skies, the wind in my face and all my troubles evaporating behind me. I was once free, like the rest of my brethren, until I was cornered in my own home. A man in a green T-shirt grabbed me by the torso… that's all I remember from that day. For the past year I've been living in a cage like a wild animal. I try to scream, yet only tweets spill from my beak. I miss my family, I miss living freely with no risks, although I've begun to grow rather fond of my new owner. He would always bring me seeds to feed upon, and refill my water bowl. I've started to notice that my owner wasn't coming home as frequently, and when he did, he always had a bottle of pills in his hand. He kept coming and going until one day, he stopped. He never came home to feed me or care for me. “Had he abandoned me?” I thought to myself “had I given my love and affection to this HUMAN only to leave me for dead?” I started to feel dizzy from the lack of food. I haven't eaten in four days. I lay on the floor, half dead, waiting for the cold grasp of death to take me.

I woke up with a jump. “Was I alive?” I wondered. A young woman walked over to my cage, with a bag of sunflower seeds in her right hand. She proceeded to pour the seeds into my bowl, and patted me on the head. I fluttered my wings with happiness. I kind of liked my new home, I had a window behind my cage with a beautiful view of the city below me. I don't know where the man with the green shirt went, but I hope he's safe.

Long Division Poster

During lock down Huia whanau had to create a poster, showing how to do long division.

This poster took me a while, but I feel like the time and effort I put into it was worth it. Yesterday, I had no idea what long division was, so I asked my mum, and I'm not going to lie, I was pretty scared. But after sitting down for a while, and practising, I managed to tackle it head on, and pretty much nailed it.

I just wish I knew about this method when I was in the Mathex Competition.

2. Don't  purchase one use plastics such as water bottles, chip packets, etc n

3. When fishing, use leftover food as bait

4. Hand down my old clothes to my little cousin

5. Once a week, we should turn off devices and do something together, without electronics

The Paradise Trap Review

Paradise trap is a 311 page novel i found in the school library. so far the main character and his mother went on a trip to diamond beach, a beautiful resort where people would take there caravans and enjoy  the summer, but things had changed since the last time the mum was there. now everything was super expensive and the beach was overly crowded. so much so that you couldn't even kick around a ball. I liked this book because it was long interesting and slightly difficult to read. I would highly recommend this book if you have access to it. Whats your Favourite book?

What I learned In Reading Today

LI: I am learning to upload my learning tasks to my blog and write about them and view and comment on my peers blog posts and offer them positive, thoughtful and helpful feedback

Today Roald Dahl had to make a scratch animation to show one of the events that occurred in the
book

personally i feel like i did well at some of the coding, even though some of it was somewhat difficult.
Have you ever used scratch before? and if so, what did you create?
